Velvety, rich peanut butter is swirled together with creamy whipped topping and cream cheese and smoothed into a buttery graham cracker crust to create this decadent peanut butter pie. This super easy, luscious peanut butter pie can be thrown together in 15 minutes—no baking required!

If you love no bake pies, try my sonic cherry pie next! It’s a perfect summer dessert.

Why this recipe works

Creating this sweet and salty pie is as simple as whipping together the peanut butter filling, smoothing it into a premade pie crust, and letting it set in the freezer. Since there’s no need to turn on your oven, this peanut butter pie recipe is sure to become your new go-to summertime treat! This pie will be a huge hit at your next pool party, potluck, or family get-together.

Peanut butter pie has been a holiday staple in my household for years! This pie has been shared on many a thanksgiving and birthday. Over the years, we’ve gotten pretty creative with the recipe. Below you’ll find the recipe for the classic version along with some fun recipe variations to help spark your culinary creativity!

How to Make Peanut Butter Pie

  • Peanut Butter—Creamy, thick peanut butter adds richness and craveable sweet and salty flavor to this pie. For the best texture, avoid using crunchy peanut butter.
  • Premade Graham Cracker Pie Crust—Buying a premade graham cracker crust will save you a lot of time, but if you prefer, you can also make your own graham cracker crust to use in this pie recipe.
  • Cream Cheese—Softened cream cheese adds density and substance to your finished pie. If you’re not a huge fan of putting cream cheese in desserts, don’t worry! You can hardly taste it in the finished pie!
  • Whipped Topping—Frozen whipped topping adds sweetness and lightness to this otherwise dense dessert. I like using lite or no sugar added whipped topping because it allows me to cut down on calories without sacrificing any sweetness.
  • Powdered Sugar—Powdered sugar is used to balance out the saltiness of the peanut butter in this pie. Since this is a no-bake pie, avoid using granular sugar; powdered sugar dissolves easier and will leave you with a much smoother pie filling.
  • Milk—A small amount of milk is used to thin and smooth out your peanut butter pie filling.

  1. Whip the cream cheese. Place your softened cream cheese into a large mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer, beat the cream cheese until it’s light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar and peanut butter. To your whipped cream cheese, add the powdered sugar and peanut butter. Mix until everything is thoroughly combined.
  2. Slowly add the milk. Continue mixing your peanut butter mixture on a slow speed while you slowly stream in the milk. Keep mixing until the mixture is smooth and uniform.
  3. Fold in the whipped topping. Using a rubber spatula, gently fold the whipped topping into your peanut butter mixture.
  4. Assemble, freeze, and serve. Pour your peanut butter filling into the graham cracker pie crust, making sure to smooth everything down. Top your pie with chopped peanut butter cups before covering it and placing it into the freezer for at least 1 hour or until firm. Once solid, cut, serve, and enjoy your peanut butter pie!

Do I need to bake this pie?

Nope! One of the best parts about this pie is that it’s easy to assemble and requires no baking! This makes peanut butter pie the perfect summer treat. Simply combine your filling ingredients, spoon your filling into the crust, top, freeze, and enjoy this cool, rich, and creamy treat!

Can I use a different kind of nut butter instead of peanut butter?

Absolutely! If you or someone you love has a peanut allergy, try swapping out the peanut butter for your favorite nut butter or spread. Almond butter, cashew butter, coconut butter, and hazelnut butter all make excellent substitutions.

Recipe Variations

Because this peanut butter pie recipe is so simple, you can really get creative with it! The classic peanut butter pie is wonderful, but if you’re looking to shake things up, try out one of the recipe variations below.

  • Make a Peanut Butter and Jelly Pie by adding a generous drizzle of berry compote or berry sauce to the top of your peanut butter pie. I’m partial towards pairing this sweet pie with a tart raspberry sauce, but strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries would pair nicely as well.
  • Try adding a layer of chocolate ice cream to the bottom of this pie. If you’ve got big chocolate and peanut butter fans in your family, they’re sure to go nuts over this rich, sweet combo. Plan ahead by placing a layer of softened chocolate ice cream into your pie crust and freezing. Make your peanut butter filling and layer it on top of the ice cream, then top, freeze, and serve your pie as normal.
  • Get crazy with the crust. If graham cracker crust isn’t your thing, try using an Oreo, shortbread, or pretzel crust instead! To make a no-bake crust, simply place the cookie or cracker of your choice and a couple tablespoons of melted butter into a food processor. Pulse the ingredients together until the mixture is the consistency of wet sand. If the mixture is too dry, add more melted butter.
